Just finished The Martian, by Andy Weir.

Woot!!!!  This is one of the most wonderfully nerdy books I’ve read in a long time.  I’d spend a lot of time talking about it here, but XKCD already summed it up so well:

The Martian

Hovertext: I have never seen a work of fiction so perfectly capture the out-of-nowhere shock of discovering that you’ve just bricked something important because you didn’t pay enough attention to a loose wire

Simply one of the most fascinating books I’ve ever read. Can’t wait to see the movie…

Loved reading “The Martian”. I’m looking forward to the movie.
The Washington Post had an excellent review of the book several months ago and there is a very long waiting list for it at my library.

The book was great, but the whole time I kept thinking that it read like a movie. I’m so glad it is getting the treatment it deserves. (And generating more interest in NASA!)

The story raises an ethical question: How many resources should we expend to save one life? The book does not dwell on that, but the US and other countries spent billions to bring the Martian home.
